5 honeymoon destinations

Five honeymoon destinations that don't feel like a "nice vacation," but rather a beginning. Each has a distinct energy, a rhythm, a certain kind of intimacy.

A honeymoon isn't about "ticking a box" on a destination. It's about choosing a place that makes your life easy: you relax, you wander around as much as you want, and you feel like your days are just for the two of you. Below are five destinations suitable for 7–10 nights (or more), each with a different style.

Mauritius

Mauritius is a great choice if you want beach and warm water, but also variety, without changing the country. The north has quieter lagoons and more options for walks and evening outings. The south is more secluded and more spectacular in terms of scenery; here the atmosphere is calmer and you can easily reach the interior of the island, where you can see waterfalls and take easy walks through nature. That's why many choose two hotels: a few nights in the north, a few in the south.

Seychelles

Seychelles is for couples who want peace and quiet and incredible beaches without having to travel. It's best to split your time between the islands: Mahé for the first few days, Praslin for beautiful beaches and clear water, and La Digue for bike rides and a relaxed pace. It's the kind of honeymoon where the plan is all about the sea, the beach, and snorkeling.

Bali

Bali can be a successful honeymoon if you don't try to see everything. The easiest way is to split it into two: a few nights in the Ubud area (inland) for rainforest, rice terraces and resorts with great spas, then a few nights by the ocean in a quieter area. That way you see two sides of the island without feeling like you're constantly on the road.

Japan

Japan is the place to go if you want a honeymoon full of contrasts: vibrant cities, followed by a few days of total peace and quiet. Start with Tokyo for different neighborhoods, shopping, cafes and urban experiences. Continue with Kyoto for temples, gardens and long walks, then Osaka for food, atmosphere and livelier evenings. Save your last few days for a ryokan with onsen (hot springs), in an area like Hakone or in the Japanese Alps, where the pace slows down completely: simple room, quiet routine, hot springs and plenty of rest. This combination works because you don't end your honeymoon tired, but really "settled".

Costa Rica

If you want Latin America, Costa Rica is one of the best choices: it has spectacular nature and relatively simple logistics. A classic split is between the interior (Arenal or Monteverde) for the forest, volcano and hot springs, then a few nights on the Pacific Ocean for the beach and sunsets. It's a good destination if you want to feel like you've explored, but without a lot of organizing effort.
